On every pour
Concrete is the most unforgiving material in the trade. A bad pour shows for the next thirty years. The clay-heavy Bay Area soil shifts with every wet season, which is why local concrete needs proper subbase prep, correct slab thickness, the right reinforcement, and control joints planned where the slab will naturally want to crack. Skip any of those four and the slab fails. We have been pouring concrete across Marin and Sonoma County for nearly three decades, walkways, foundations, slabs, steps, and every transition in between. Every pour gets the right mix for the weather, the right cure schedule, and the same standard whether it is twenty square feet or two thousand.
Novara Concrete Pour FAQ
Will my new concrete crack?
All concrete will eventually develop hairline cracks. That is the nature of the material. The job is to control where cracks happen and keep them cosmetic instead of structural. We plan control joints in the right locations so the slab cracks where you cannot see it. The clay soil across Marin and Sonoma makes proper subbase compaction even more critical. Most concrete that fails in this region failed because the subbase was wrong, not the concrete itself.
How thick should my concrete slab be?
A standard residential walkway is four inches thick. A patio that will hold furniture and foot traffic is four to five inches. A slab supporting vehicle weight needs six inches minimum with proper rebar. Foundation slabs and structural pours have their own engineered specs. We size the slab for your specific use during the consultation.
How long does concrete take to cure?
Concrete reaches walkable strength in twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Light foot traffic in seven days. Vehicle weight at twenty-eight days. Final color and surface stability in sixty days. Bay Area weather affects cure speed. Cool wet conditions slow the cure, dry hot conditions can cure too fast and cause surface cracking. We schedule pours to give your slab the best cure window possible.
What concrete finish is best for my home?
Broom finish is the most common and most affordable. Slip resistant and timeless. Smooth trowel finish gives a modern interior look but is slippery outdoors when wet. Exposed aggregate adds texture and lasts the longest. Stamped concrete adds aesthetic options at the cost of higher maintenance. We talk through which finish fits your home, budget, and long-term care expectations.
Do I need a permit for a concrete project?
Most residential walkways, patios, and slabs at grade do not require a permit across Marin and Sonoma. Foundation work, structural slabs, and pours connected to drainage or retaining systems do require approval. We confirm permit requirements during the consultation and pull every permit needed before the pour.
Can you match new concrete to my existing walkways or driveway?
Color matching new concrete to existing concrete is difficult because aged concrete is rarely the color it started as. We can come close with the right mix, finish, and surface treatment. Where exact matching is critical, we sometimes recommend redoing both old and new sections together so the entire surface matches.
What kind of warranty comes with a Novara concrete pour?
Every concrete pour comes with a two-year warranty on workmanship covering subbase failure, structural cracking beyond control joints, and surface delamination. Hairline cosmetic cracks are normal and not covered. If anything we built fails within those two years for reasons not caused by extreme weather, tree root damage, or owner alterations, we come back and fix it at no cost.
