OUR APPROACH

How Novara Builds Driveways in Marin and Sonoma

  1. Site Survey and Grade Analysis

We measure your driveway, analyze slope and grade, and design the surface in 3D. Drainage paths and transitions to street and garage all get planned upfront.

  2. Excavation and Subbase

Most driveways fail because the subbase is too thin. We excavate to proper depth, lay geotextile fabric, and compact a base spec built for vehicle loads, not just foot traffic.

  3. Drainage and Installation

Surface drainage planned and built in. Materials installed with the right edge restraints and joint specification. Pavers, stamped concrete, or finished concrete.

  4. Sealing and Walkthrough

Joints sealed. Surface sealed where appropriate. Final cleanup. Two-year workmanship warranty activated. Aftercare guidance for sealing schedule and care.

On every driveway

A driveway is the most demanding surface on a property. It carries vehicle weight every day, sheds water through every winter storm, and ties together your home, garage, and the street. Most failures here are never about the surface material. They are about a subbase that was cut too thin to save days on the install schedule, or drainage that was added as an afterthought instead of designed in from the start. We engineer driveways for the slope, soil, and water path of each specific property across Marin and Sonoma before any excavation happens. The 3D design shows the finished driveway in context with the home so transitions to street and garage stay clean. Done right, the surface is the easy part.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Novara Driveway Installation FAQ

Do I need a permit to replace my driveway?

A like-for-like driveway replacement typically does not require a permit across Marin and Sonoma. Expanding the footprint, changing the curb cut, or adding drainage tied to the storm system does require approval with your local city office or county. We confirm permit requirements during the consultation and pull every permit needed before work starts.

Pavers, concrete, or stamped concrete, which is best for a driveway?

Pavers handle freeze-thaw and slope movement best because individual units flex without cracking. Concrete is the most affordable and offers a clean modern look but is most prone to cracking on the clay-heavy Bay Area soil if the base is wrong. Stamped concrete adds aesthetic options at the cost of higher maintenance over time. We talk through which fits your property, slope, and aesthetic during the consultation.

How long does a driveway installation take?

A standard residential driveway takes one to three weeks depending on size, material, and access. Concrete needs cure time before vehicles can drive on it. Typically seven days for foot traffic and twenty-eight days for full vehicle weight. Pavers can be driven on as soon as installation is complete. We give you a clear schedule before any work starts.

Can you build a driveway on a steep lot?

Yes. Most properties across Marin and Sonoma have grade. We design driveways with proper slope, drainage built in, and traction-rated surfaces where needed. Steeper driveways often pair with retaining walls to support the cut and protect the surrounding landscape. The 3D design lets you see the finished driveway on your slope before we break ground.

How do you handle drainage on a driveway?

Drainage is designed before excavation. Surface water gets directed away from your home and garage, never toward them. Channel drains, French drains, or catch basins get installed where slope or hardscape requires them. We map every water flow path during the 3D design phase. The wet winters across Marin and Sonoma punish driveways without proper drainage. Ours are built for it.

Will my new driveway crack?

Pavers do not crack as a system because they flex. Concrete will eventually develop hairline cracks over time even with the best installation. That is the nature of the material. The difference is whether those cracks stay hairline or grow into structural issues. Proper subbase, control joints, reinforcement, and drainage are what determine whether a concrete driveway lasts ten years or thirty.

What kind of warranty comes with a Novara driveway?

Every driveway comes with a two-year warranty on workmanship covering settling, base failure, joint integrity for pavers, and surface delamination for concrete. Manufacturer warranties on materials transfer to you separately. If anything we built fails within those two years for reasons not caused by extreme weather or owner alterations, we come back and fix it at no cost.
